Quickly becoming the biggest urban stars of our time, you would expect these two to be the most stuck up people you could come across. If you were to think that, you would be very wrong. The moment JJ welcomed me into her home in her pink fluffy dressing gown, no make-up and a big smile I knew she was down to earth. The crew didn’t faze the pair either as Daniel attempted to make a smoothie in a blender he admits he had never used before. My first fond impressions greatened when we settled down with tea and biscuits and started chatting.

Urban Beat: So, here we are for the Battle of the Sexes and you have been voted ‘Most Inspirational Female’ and ‘Most Gorgeous Male’. How do you feel? It’s a big honour!
JJ: I know, isn’t it exciting! We are so happy; it’s such a lovely gesture from our fans. We feel so loved.
Danny: Yeah, we are really grateful and flattered that so many people appreciate us and our songs!
UB: Well, you must have had some idea. You’ve been top of the charts three times already and you only appeared on the scene in November!
Danny: We’ve still got a long way to go before we are of the same status as some artists.
JJ: Yeah, I don’t think we will ever match people like Kanye and 50 Cent.
UB: Speaking of 50, a little birdie tells us you’re going on tour with him. How’s that one going to work, you’re quite different in styles?
JJ: We are very different but that’s the fun of it. He’s a great guy and we’ve already started rehearsals for the Urban Festival.
Danny: He’s hench. I look tiny next to him!
UB: I can’t help but notice how down to earth you two are! How do you manage to keep your feet on the ground?
Jess: Oh, it’s easy really. Just don’t listen to the Paris Hiltons and –
Danny: -the Ashley Simpsons and you’re bound not to get carried away!
JJ: Don’t you start finishing my sentences!
Danny: (laughs) Sorry.
UB: Who wears the trousers in the relationship?
Both: I do!
UB: How did you two meet and get together as an artist?
Danny: In school, and she’s been mine since!
JJ: We only started singing properly in Sixth Form and started doing more shows and things and went from there. It’s a lot of fun being amateur but really stressful and can be unfulfilling.
Danny: We sometimes felt like ‘That’s enough. We aren’t getting anywhere with this’ but we wanted it so badly we kept going. In the words of 50 cent, ‘Get rich or die trying’ but in the sense of being famous!
UB: So you think anyone can make it if they try hard enough?
JJ: Yeah why not! Most voices are enhanced nowadays anyway!
UB: Who is your role model?
Danny: We love Ne-yo and Chris Brown.
JJ: And Rhianna and people. They’re all such great, down to earth people with such amazing voices.
UB: There have recently been rumours of you two buying a house in the country which you are designing yourselves. Is this true?
JJ: (broad grin) It is, yes!
Danny: Obviously, we had an architect helping. It’s an amazing design, our ultimate dream house... and the whole family’s moving in!
JJ: Well we couldn’t live without them, could we? Family is always the most important thing!
Danny: Do you know what? We should be on MTV’s Cribs.
JJ: Yeah!
UB: That would be good! So what can we be expecting from you next?
JJ: We’re doing our new video for ‘Beat you’ and we’re really excited.
Danny: We can’t reveal anything about that yet though!
JJ: And we’re also getting on with organising our dance tour. No one’s heard of this yet so you’re privileged!
UB: Well, we are honoured! What’s it going to be called; we need to look out for tickets!
Danny: It’s after our new album and it’s going to be called ‘Beat Box’.
JJ: We’re so looking forward to it. Being on stage is the best and our choreography and dancers are amazing. They could easily upstage us!
