Who would publish my magazine? (short institution study)

There are many publishers of magazines in the UK, most of which specialise in certain genres. Here is a list of magazines i have found when entering ‘UK magazine publishers’ into www.ask.com:
· IPC Media - IPC Media is the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher with approximately 90 brands and selling 350 million magazines every year.
· The National Magazine Company - The National Magazine Company is one of the foremost luxury consumer magazine publishers in the UK, reaching 14.2 million adults every year. NatMag currently publish 19 magazines and 62% of all ABC1 magazine reading women aged 15-55 engage with a NatMag brand.
· BCB publishing - BCB& publishing is a team of magazine and newsletter experts with over 20 years of experience
· Bauer H Publishing – publishes mostly women’s weekly magazines and is one of the leading publisher in the UK
The magazine publishing companies listed above seem to be amongst some of the most successful companies who publish magazines. However, these magazines tend to specialise in lifestyle and women’s magazines predominantly. Therefore, I shall now refer back to my brainstorm of music magazines and research their publishers.
· Rolling Stone (US) – Straight Arrow Publishing Co Inc.
· NME – IPC Media (Time Inc.)
· Q - Bauer Media Group
· Mojo – Bauer Media Group
· Blender - Alpha Media Group
· Kerrang! – Bauer Media Group

Bauer Media Group, both in the US and the UK, seems to be a popular choice of publishing company. I will now try to find out what their gap in the market is in terms of music magazines. Predominantly, this company publishes women’s interest magazines, men’s interest magazines and hobbies. There are only a few music magazines of which they publish, mostly of the rock genre. One exception to this is Q magazine which does not focus on any particular genre. Therefore, it is clear to see the gap in their market is Hip Hop and R&B magazines. Bauer Media Group also broadcasts 50% of Box Television, some of which are based on pop and hip hop (Kiss radio and TV). I therefore think that Bauer Media Group would support a magazine of the genre I am focusing on. They will know the market of this genre as Kiss and Smash Hits channels on television are very popular. They also have radio stations of the same genre. This has therefore bought me to the conclusion of choosing Bauer Media Group Co Inc. to be the best company to publish my magazine.

I used Wikipedia and the official Bauer website for research.
