I chose to do print for a few reasons. As I am working on my own, I concluded that doing print would be much easier as the filming task would require more than one person. I work much better on my own on projects such as this and also wish to get into the magazine industry in future careers so found it would interest me much more.
To begin with, working on one’s own allows that person to be more personal and detailed with their work and creating the initials of a magazine is definitely something which would be better done alone. Although I will have the disadvantage of not having different ideas from others like I would in a group, I also believe that personally I will be slightly advantaged not having lots of different ideas mashed into one. I am a person who prefers working on their own ultimately anyway and prefer to stick to one theme or idea and perfect that.
Furthermore, I worked in a group during a practise coursework and felt that I was let down on a number of occasions. One team member insisted they were the best on computers and so would not let the rest of us do anything. There was also the problem of a lack of enthusiasm which I found difficult to cope with, especially on the day before it was to be presented when we had only taken some pictures which were not good enough anyway. Therefore, the next time the opportunity for a draft coursework task came up, I decided to work with one other person for the filming part which went rather well. I worked individually on the print task and found it much easier to keep to deadlines and specifications.
In my particular media class, I do not feel there is anyone I would get along with well enough to complete a successful task without feeling reserved when having an input of ideas or similar. There is also the problem that if I were to choose to work with people from a separate class, it would be difficult to coordinate times in which we could work on the project.
To conclude, I would much rather do the print task because it allows me to be creative individually without the restrictions of working with an unfamiliar group.
